Composed and coordinated by Richard Stanley (his first film in quite a while, after he was scandalously terminated three days into creation on his long-gestating dream venture, The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996)), Color Out of Space is a modernized adjustment of H.P. Lovecraft’s 1927 short story “The Color Out of Space”, and takes a decent cut at portraying one of Lovecraft’s most slanted elements. Blending cleverness and body awfulness (maybe gauged excessively much towards humor), the film offers Nicolas Cage another chance to go full-Cage, and kid does he incline toward it – this is the most over the top, dramatic, and marginal absurd execution he’s given since Vampire’s Kiss (1988), and how much scope you give him may well decide your assessment of the motion picture.
