Went to an early showing expecting your standard thing “bashful youngster in secondary school figures out how to stand up for himself” kind of feel-great show. This film is far beyond that – I was really amazed by the adult subjects and moving characters. Dysfunctional behavior, sexual maltreatment, medications and liquor… I think the essayist/screenwriter/chief said all that needed to be said in the Q+A after when he said it was a film that took a gander at the close to home parts of that point in existence without being nostalgic. I truly thought often about these three youngsters – Charlie, Sam, and Patrick – and their story never felt messy. Simply genuine, and moving, and contacting. Go see this film!
